MAMA HESTER WILDEMAN
Mama Hester Wildeman is from Wittedrif, just outside Plettenbergbaai. Isaac, her husband, is still employed as a caretaker at a school and also serves as a pastor at his local church. She has a lovely son and her daughter Johandie is her mother’s right-hand woman. For more than ten years, Mama Hester has been creating beautiful, hand-sewn animals from Shwe-Shwe material for the well-known Old Nics in Plettenberg Bay. More than 10 ladies have already been trained, and more are undergoing training every year. Their handmade toys provide them with an income.
Mama Hester is eager to expand her range of material animals by making them by hand as well as using her sewing machine to create beautiful work. Besides her handsewn project, she also runs a guest house.
