MAMA MARY VISAGIE

Oasis Skill Centre

Mama Mary is a dedicated teacher and was a member of The Women’s Development Forum. Together they identified a great need for children with learning and other disabilities, and so in 1999, Mama Mary Visagie established the Oasis Skills Development Centre. Together with caregivers, they provide assistance, support, training, and guidance to persons with multiple (physical and mental) disabilities.

Since most of her learners come from previously disadvantaged communities and deprived households, they never had access to an education suited to their needs, or even just basic life skills training. Now, they have. The centre has an Early Childhood Development facility with a stimulation room for children with disabilities to play and computer laboratory for improving computer skills.
