Serves 10


1 Clean chicken
250 g Pasta i.e. spirals
125 g Bacon (in cubes)
2 Onions, finely chopped
250 g Mushrooms, cut into slices
1 Green pepper, pitted and cut into blocks
Salt and freshly grounded black pepper

30ml Butter
30 ml Cake Flour
375 ml Lukewarm milk
125 ml Fresh breadcrumbs
125 ml Grated cheddar cheese


  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Cook chicken until soft. Remove from pot.
  3. Remove skin and break up the meat a little.
  4. Boil pasta in same meat sauce of the chicken (add water if the fluid is too little).
  5. Drain pasta and add to chicken.
  6. Braai bacon until light brown. Remove from pan and add to the chicken mixture.
  7. Braai onions, mushrooms and green pepper in the same pan until soft.
  8. Add salt and pepper and add to the chicken mixture.


  1. Melt butter, add cake flour, mix well and braai ± 1 minute.
  2. Remove from heat. Stir milk gradually to this mixture in pot and stir until mixture is smooth.
  3. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Add white sauce to chicken mixture.
  5. Pour into smeared oven dish.
  6. Mix crumbs and cheese and throw over chicken dish.
  7. Bake until light brown on top.


As mentioned it can serve up to 10 people – ensure that you have a large dish or use 2 dishes to serve.
